Winter Field Day

Saturday, January 25th 2025

9:00 AM - 5:30 PM

Winter Field Day (WFD) is a communications exercise. WFD can be worked from the comfort of your home or in a remote location. The club will be participating  at the American Red Cross office in Market Commons (Address Below).
We look forward to having a great day getting on the air and possibly even learning a bit.  All are welcome and we'd love to have you stop by regardless of if you plan to participate or not.

Where is it?
American Red Cross
3531 Pampas Dr.
Myrtle Beach, SC 29577

What is required to participate?
We only require that you have a good time.
Don't worry if you don't have your own radio there is always someone who would love to help you get on the air.

What do I need to bring?
If you are planning to participate be sure to bring everything you'll need (Radio, Coax, Antenna, Masts, etc.) to operate except the power (that is provided). We'll have plenty of desk space indoors but if you'll want to operate outdoors you'll need to bring a table, chair or whatever else you may need. Please note we don't have a lot of trees available so you'll need your own masts if your antenna needs to be suspended.

What modes can I operate for the event?
Just about anything except FT8 & FT4

How do I log my contacts?
For those with computers we will have networked logging available via N3FJP Winter Field Software.  The club has a license so you will not need your own. We'll be helping everyone with a computer update and get it set up for networking. Don't worry if you don't have a computer or would rather use paper, we can handle that too.

What about the food?
A light snack will be provided on a first come first serve basis.
You'll be on your own for lunch though.

What else is going on?
We will do informal Digital Mode tutoring though out the day. We've got several folks that have volunteered to do their best to help get others on the digital airwaves.  So if you've been having trouble doing just that be sure to bring your computer, your radio and anything else that you think you'll need and while we can't promise anything, we'll do our best to get you on the digital air waves.

What if I still have Questions?
You can email the WFD coordinator, George Baker, at field.day@w4gs.org
