The GRAND STRAND AMATEUR RADIO CLUB
A BRIEF HISTORY
Amateur radio has existed in Myrtle Beach and the Grand Strand since before Hurricane Hazel. There are reports of local amateur operators “broadcasting” conditions during that hurricane. Although the records are incomplete, we can be fairly confident in saying that the Grand Strand Amateur Radio Club (GSARC) has existed since about 1970.
The club has been active in community events and public service, such as the providing communications for the Myrtle Beach Marathon Medical Staff.
Emergency service is one of the major occasions when amateur radio comes to everyone’s attention. The GSARC has members who participate in the Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) and the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES).

Our radio club provides license examinations as well as training.
